Henry Morrison Flagler was born January 2nd, 1830 in Hopewell, New York, and he died May 20th, 1913 in Palm Beach Florida. At the age of eight, Flagler’s parents separated which caused him and one of his younger sisters to have to move to Rock Hill, New York. Years after, when Flagler was the age of fourteen, he left school and moved out to live with one of his half brothers in Bellevue, Ohio where he then got a job and started making the money he needed to be on his own. At the age of 23 Flagler married Mary Harkness, the daughter of his uncle, therefore his cousin. Henry and Mary soon bought a home, and had children as well. Henry Flagler made Florida’s East Coast railroad, this railway provided transportation for people and goods, all the way from Jacksonville to the city of Key West. On the state of Florida’s east coast, Henry Flagler also created many highly rated hotels, as long as the to million acres of land that he helped to develop. Flagler was the creator of many of our modern aspects in St. Augustine that we have today. Flagler is now known as one of the famous Floridians of all time.
