The War of US vs Mexico “Crash!”, “Bang!”, “Boom!” were the sounds as well as bloody battle cries people heard during this time period. The US vs Mexican war was a time of despair, horror, and a nightmare people will never forget. Around this time Mexico and the US were the same sizes and didn’t have many conflicts with each other. The war all started because of border issues. The Us and Mexico believed the border were in totally different locations. Mexicans crossed what the US thought was the border and the US crossed where Mexico thought the border was. This caused a big conflict. A quote that supports this is, “...Polk was a strong supporter of Manifest Destiny.”(Roden, 317) This quote shows this could have been a huge excuse to why they wanted to go to war with Mexico, to expand their land. Another quote says, “...overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development or our yearly multiplying millions.”(O’Sullivan, 323) This information is meant that the US wants more land because of the population increasing while Mexicans population is increasing as well. “California will, probably, next fall away from Mexico…”(O’Sullivan, 323)This shows that US got Texas and now, just like that, they want California from Mexico. Another part states, “He also sent John Slidell, a special envoy, to Mexico city to try to buy California...the attempt to buy a large part of their country angered the Mexican government.
