The book, deaf again, is a witty tale of a hard of hearing boy to a deaf man. Mark drolsbaugh is is wonderful writer who explains his life as being “thrown” in to a hearing world. This book shows how much people didnt know then, and probably still dont know today, about the deaf culture. This book was very eyeopening for a me a hearing reader. Mark use of humor and witty makes this tale of ignorance about hard of hear and deaf children come to life.
In the section “The Parts That Really Matter” of The Boys in the Boat I noticed that Daniel James Brown starts moving the story along faster, which correlates greatly to the section title. In addition to this, he also uses paradoxes in order to portray the complexities for rowing. For example he states that a shell, which is “powered by unusually large and physically powerful men or women-is commanded, controlled, and directed by the smallest and least powerful person in the boat” (178). What this shows is that the coxswain has to control his crew members whereas in other sports, team members are more equal. When he explains that “as the tempo accelerates, the penalty of a miscue… becomes ever more severe”, which the author uses to reveal another unique quality of rowing.

From beginning to end, I am captivated by the music. Each element brings a unique character to the overall piece. The music takes the listener on a suspenseful journey. The arrangement of the song gives me a visual of someone stumbling upon a dark forest and begins to hear the fast-approaching movement of something behind them. The pairing of several melodic phrases throughout the composition adds to the sense of chaos and turbulence.

The dissection of the poster as being without any ink and just being a compositional drawing, one can see the structural image coming into place. I attended to a concert performed by the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra on November 13th this year. This concert took place in the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. I chose to attend to this concert because I have never been to a performance by any youth orchestra, I was curious to see how their performance would compare to other orchestras. The first of the three piece that were performed in this concert was Maenads’ Dance, from The Bassarids, composed by Hans Werner Henze. A variety of instruments were used in this piece, including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings.

Introduction Roger’s and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is arguably one of the most well known films that many can admit to watching at least once in their lifetime. People all around the world have found this musical inspiring, as it documents growth and hope amidst the horrors of World War II. This incredibly well written film is based on the story of the Von Trapp family who escaped Austria when the Nazis invaded it during the war. Part of what made this movie so interesting on so many different accounts was the music that accompanied the vivid and exciting scenes. Without music, many could agree that our world would be a sad, quiet, dull and depressing place.
