Were the way people talking determined by their race? Many people could determine race just by listening to someone talk. These poems are very obvious who is speaking just because of word choice, the poem “Tableau” is obvious that a white is speaking because of the vocabulary compared to the poem “Incident”. The poems are very different because, the word choice and what happens, the black speaker says words that are not in the vocabulary of the white and vise versa. “Incident” the poem with the black speaker has different and very distinct, the vocabulary she uses shows she was in the harlem renaissance reigned by blacks.
