As an undergraduate of Howard University, I have been made aware of the power I hold when I remain dedicated to my studies and committed to serve the community. To enter the medical field as a black female doctor would help shift the shortage of blacks in medicine. Difficult but not impossible-- I aim to receive a B.S in Biology to help me accomplish my medical aspirations. It is my intention to complete my undergraduate studies with a 3.6 or higher and then attend Baylor College of Medicine. Upon completion, I aspire to open a clinic in an impoverished area, with the purpose of providing affordable medical aid for kids dealing with sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS. It has always been one of my greatest desires to serve kids in underprivileged neighborhoods as a Pediatric doctor. This desire took a slight turn when I received the news, that my older cousin Emanuel was diagnosed with HIV at the age of 16. The first way I plan on doing that is by maintaining a competitive average. This past semester I received a 3.81 average and an A in my Biology 101 class. I want to continue maintaining a high cumulative average by pushing myself more than I ever have. I want to surpass my accomplishments as a high school student and transform into a scientist. Secondly, I plan on volunteering more frequently. This past semester serving at an HIV/AIDS clinic, protesting for “I AM AME” social event, and volunteering at a Veterans nursing home, has made realize the importance of remaining connected to those who need to be served. Lastly, my plan to ensure my entrance into medical school would be acceptance in The Center for Preprofessional Education Student Scholars Program. Acceptance to this program, will keep me on track and give me the resources needed to thrive in
