These are two famous generic HRQOL instruments for people living in community that consist of most of the vital concepts of HRQOL and have been proven to be applicable in cross-cultural settings [4].

SGRQ is a regulated, self-administered questionnaire for assessing impaired health and perceived HRQOL in airway diseases. It consists of a total of 50 items, divided into three domains: Symptoms, Activity and Impacts. Scores are calculated separately for each domain and a total score that includes all items is calculated too. Every item has an empirically derived weight and low scores indicate better HRQOL [5].

Another disease that has significant adverse effects on HRQOL would be type 2 diabetics. Various instruments have been used to measure HRQOL in diabetes patients including generic and diabetes-specific measures. The generic HRQOL instruments frequently used to assess type 2 diabetes are those derived from the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS), specifically the Short Form-36 (SF-36) and Short Form-20 (SF-20). Patients with diabetes had among the least scores on physical, role, social functioning and health perceptions, but not on mental health or bodily pain [7].

HRQOL in type 2 diabetes has been determined by a number of other generic instruments too. These include the Sickness Impact Profile (SIP), EuroQol (EQ5D), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Quality of Well-Being Scale (QWB), Well-Being Questionnaire (WBQ), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL)
