The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classic novel based around an unlikely friendship. Huckleberry Finn, or Huck, is sick of “sivilized” life. This thought is what triggers Huck’s decision to run away from Ms. Watson. Ms. Watson is Huck’s guardian and a slave owner, her slave being Jim. Jim finds out that he is going to be sent to New Orleans, which is far away from his family in Missouri. Huck and Jim somehow end up finding each other in the woods, and decide to team up in order to escape their lives in custody. Huck and Jim’s relationship starts all the way back from when Huck was living with Ms. Watson, and Jim was doing all of Ms. Watson’s work. After months of traveling down the Mississippi River together, their relationship changes, becoming a bond like a father and his son. There are multiple examples of how Jim and Huck’s relationship changes throughout the novel. The way Jim begins to protect Huck from certain instances, teaches Huck lessons about life, and how Huck keeps Jim’s secret and works with him to be free, are all ways that Huck and Jim’s relationship is much different from when they first …show more content…

Huck and Tom always try to take advantage of Jim because of how gullible he is. One example of this is Huck and Tom taking Jim’s hat right off of his head and putting it on a tree branch above him. The two of the boys, on their way to their gangs meeting, got stopped by Jim. They had to sit still until Jim fell asleep. Tom is always up for adventure, so while Huck and Tom finally leave for their meeting at the shore, Tom told Huck what he’d done to Jim. Huck says, “Tom said he slipped Jim’s hat off of his head and hung it on a limb right over him, and Jim stirred a little, but he didn’t wake (Twain 6).” Huck and Tom are very immature and think that this is a funny little prank they pull on Jim. Huck thinks that it’s wrong to pull jokes on Jim, but he does it anyways because it doesn’t harm him in any
