Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are well known characters to readers. Tom and Huck are completely different from each other in every way. They are complete opposites in basic living situations and in the ways in which they view the world. While Tom and Huck share the common bond of being people with no parents. In contrast, Huck Finn is alone, has no home, and his father is the town drunk who ignores him and,when he's drunk Huck has no one to take care of him. It is a sad yes that, at the end of the book, Mr. Jones is the first adult ever to welcome Huck inside a home. While Tom sleeps in a comfortable bed at night, Huck might be found sleeping in someone's barn, in a cardboard box, or his favorite sleeping place, in an empty barrel. This is where Tom finds him. While Tom is gets three meals a day, Huck has to scavenge for food. Huck does not go to school and, is not invited to other peoples homes. Instead he is free and moves freely of the town and disappearing for a long time, he never gets missed. His education is from the "school of hardknocks." Contrary to Tom, Huck is a person who is disliked and ignored from community.
