Huckleberry Finn Chapter 1 Summary

In the last few chapters of Huckleberry Finn, there are several parts that I think are weird but funny. One of them is in the beginning of chapter 31. The Duke, King, Huck and Jim are travelling down the river after they were caught for pretending to be the brothers of the dead man. They travelled for a few days to get away from that town, and didn’t stop in a new town until they knew they were safe. Once they did stop, the King and the Duke began going around town and doing random events to get money, “First they done a lecture on temperance; but they didn’t make enough for them both to get drunk on. Then in another village they started a dancing school; but they didn’t no more how to dance than a kangaroo does; so the first prance they made, the general public jumped in and pranced them out of town. When Huck finds out who took him, he travels to his home, only to find out that the owner is Tom Sawyer’s Uncle Silas. When Huck runs into Tom’s Aunt, she mistakes him for Tom, and he decides to go along with it. Unfortunately for Huck, Tom arrives a short while after, but they devise a plan, Tom pretends to be a cousin, and together they find a way to get Jim out of custody. I think this section of the book really shows Huck’s care and compassion for Jim and that he’s willing to travel to a complete stranger’s house and pretend to be someone he’s not to save him from slavery. I also think that this relationship between Huck and Jim is Twain’s way of showing that everyone deserves to be loved and care for, no matter they’re race or ethnicity. Later on in this section, Tom, Huck, and Jim are running from workers in the night due to a spooky letter the workers received. They didn’t know they were chasing Huck, Tom and Jim so they shot at them. Tom was hit in the leg and Huck hid him and Jim in the woods and went back into town for a
