The book I chose for this project is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huckleberry Finn is a young boy being raised by two widows to become civilized. Huckleberry Finn was in possession of 6,000$, that is a lot for the time period. That’s when Huckleberry’s dad shows up to take his fortune. Huck is then abducted by his father to live in the woods. Huck dislikes being with his father so he fakes his own death and runs off to meet Jim, who has also run away. The two go on adventures together down the Mississippi River. Huck and Jim encounter a steamship swarmed with murdering thieves and being taken in by a family which is eventually murdered. Jim then is taken away to a plantation. Huck is loyal enough to try and rescue Jim and they ride off into the sunset when Jim is freed of slavery. I made …show more content…

I chose the song, Moon River by Andy Williams. “Two drifters, off to see the world, there’s such a lot of world to see, we’re after the same rainbow’s end.” The song is about following a dream shared by two, and reaching the dream by drifting down a river, like Huck and Jim. “I’d go down the river about fifty mile and camp in one place for good.” (Twain 31) The song describes the river like the setting in the story that carries Huck and Jim.
The Next Most Important in Text Jim is the buddy that travels along with Huck. The song I picture Jim as Learning to Fly, by Tom Petty. “I’m learning to fly, but I ain’t got wings, coming down is the hardest thing.” Jim is trying to achieve freedom which is difficult for him because of his race, he’s escaping freedom. “I hear ole missus tell de wider she gwyne to sell me down to Orleans… I—I run off.” (Twain 24) The song describes Jim because it shows that it is hard for Jim to fly without wings, and once he gets going he can’t stop. Just like how Jim can’t go back now and it is hard for Jim to get his freedom.
