“All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn. American writing comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since.”(Hemingway) This book is not only about a runaway slave and a young boy, but it’s also different from today’s literature, the themes are significant. In Mark Twain’s novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” three meaningful subjects are explored in education, friendship, and slavery that are still relevant today. Twain used education to show how it impacted Huck in the 1840s and in our everyday lives. Throughout the book there is more than one example of the impact of education. The people of Arkansas, were clearly not educated. They sat around in their dirty houses and often fought about trading tobacco and owing money. Earlier Huck trusted Mr. Thatcher with his money because he knows Mr. Thatcher is smart. In the 1840s slavery was defiantly an issue. Men, women and children were abused everyday by their owners. Slaves were seen as property and not people, so they were treated awful, the living conditions were also appalling.
