Legends in Soccer History Currently, soccer is not played the same way it was in the 1980’s and 1990’s. People changed the way the game was played over time. I chose this topic just because I have always loved the sport of soccer. I picked these two legends for one reason, because they both did great things throughout their career for the Mexico international team and their clubs respectively. The first legend I chose is Hugo Sanchez. I chose him because, in my opinion, he is the best Mexican soccer player to ever live. He didn’t just do great for the Mexico international team; he also played well at all the different clubs he played for, including Real Madrid which is one of the best teams in the world. I chose him because he is recognized more for his international achievements rather than his club achievements. Luis Arturo Hernandez Carreon was born December 22, 1968. He is the fourth highest goal scorer of all time for the Mexican international soccer team and he is also their highest goal scorer in World Cups. In Mexico, Hernandez played with Queretaro, Cruz Azul, Monterrey, Necaxa, Club America, Tigres, Veracruz, and Chiapas. He was even named Mexico’s player of the year in 1997 and 1998. He also played with the club Boca Juniors in Argentina but failed to get in the starting line-up. Like I said, he is mostly known for his international achievements but is also known worldwide for his long blonde hair and his nickname El Matador. As I have said before, a player can become a legend for different reasons. These two have been considered legends for a while because of their success, but someone like Pele is a legend for changing the game and scoring the most goals ever in soccer history.
