Focus Question 3.) How do the characters in my texts give a better understanding of what power can do to a society? The “Hunger Games” written by Suzanne Collins, directed by Gary Ross, is another great source in my research on the effects of power on human nature. In the hunger games the main source of power is the totalitarian government of the capital, as they hold most of the country of Panem’s wealth. The government controls all of the 12 districts. In the hunger games the citizens of each district are like little pawns in a game of life or death, all for the capitals enjoyment and entertainment showing the ultimate display of power of the government displaying their human nature as evil. Throughout the film, we see Mike start focusing less on killing Connor, but more about protecting his only son and keeping his innocence as he starts trying to redeem himself. These two films really show how human nature can change so much through a short period of time. Though we don’t really know how long these times where we see that Mike wants to change so that Michael is nothing like who he was. The human nature of what he is doing changes. He stops being a very serious man, he becomes loving towards his son and happy. Though he still has the goal of revenge. At the end of the film Mike takes out Rooney's entire entourage with his submachine gun and walks directly up to Rooney, as Mr Rooney says “I’m glad it’s you” and Mike murders him. But we see at this moment, that there was always love shared and that emotion has been brought out of the two boys. We realise that Mike's intentions were …show more content…
“It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” ― Anne Frank. We see an overwhelming high number officials, politicians, and people of higher authority run for office as unselfish and chivalrous members of society. But with the passing of time, these once trusted officials become hungry for power and money. But there will always be good in everybody as there is always a little evil in everybody. The text that has taught me the most about power and human nature would be Anne Franks “The Diary of a Young Girl”. In this text we get to feel like we are this other person living through what Anne lived through, because of how detailed her diary entries where. Our society is crumbling from this misused power, countries more focused on gaining territory, glory, power and wealth. Many people in power abuse their position through the authority with manipulative strategies. Such behaviour can have negative, inaccurate, unfair or even bias outcomes. In “Lord of the Flies”, William Golding is conveying the message that human beings must have rules, authority and government in order to maintain a safe environment. I learnt that this is true, but our society needs the right
