Racism is a very real thing, even today all over the world, despite all the laws that have been passed. Human rights issues are a big problem in society mainly the ones dealing with race and gender. In the book I read OF MICE AND MEN the rights issues were evident. One of the ones that struck me, was the issue of Race. In the book Crooks (who happened to be my favorite character) deals with this problem. He was a black slave for a ranch owner and he was treated very bad. He was separated from all the other workers, he was talked to different (he was talked to like he was trash). Now I am aware the book was written in 1937 and the period they were discussing was around the late 17 early 1800s, so no the segregation abolishment laws were not
