Linda Sue Park's novel A Long Walk to Water tells the story of Salva, a young South Sudanese boy living through and experiencing the effects of the Second Sudanese Civil War. Throughout the story, Salva is shown to barely make it out of many life-threatening scenarios on his way to a refugee camp in Ethiopia. Despite these challenges, Salva manages to make it to the camp and is eventually resettled in the United States. In A Long Walk to Water, Salva proves that resources such as food and water, support from others, and luck are incredibly important to survival. Salva used many different resources to his advantage to survive the war.
There will be no solution to the growing problem of human trafficking until more people are aware of how human trafficking takes place, until states begin to deter human trafficking more effectively, and until more individuals take an active role in reporting possible acts of trafficking to the proper authorities. Therefore human trafficking cannot be defined as any one particular crime; it is not simply sexual exploitation. Other forms of human trafficking are labor trafficking, slavery and in some cases human trafficking consist of the removal of organs. It is much more than that because human trafficking has many different characteristics. Human smuggling is a type of illegal immigration in which an agent is paid to help a person cross the border clandestinely. Human trafficking is the exploitation of unwillingly or unwitting people through force, coercion, threat, or deception. (Schmalleger; Pg. 380) The difference between the two, is that human smuggling the party/individual is aware and willing to cross the border, and in human trafficking the party/individual is unaware or unwilling to cross the border. It pretty sad to think that this issue is easily over looked every day, but I think the best way to help stop the issue is make people more aware of the issue.
Human trafficking produces billions of dollars in profit every year, it is right behind drug trafficking as the most lucrative form of crime throughout the world. (DHS website). Victims of human trafficking rarely come forward due to the threats of murder, threats of killing their loved ones/friends, as well as having nowhere else to go because they have been ostracized from their own family and their “pimp” is their family. Another issue of why victims do not come forward is that they are afraid of law enforcement so they may go to jail, etc. (DHS website)

It is not confined to a particular country or region but it has spread its roots more intensely in the third world countries especially in the subcontinent. However, if we talk about its connection in Pakistan it is quite distressingly connected with our society. This is the modern term for slavery of people for purposes including forced sex and labor. Sex trafficking is one of the most exclusive and most advanced types of slavery and is often gone unseen or unnoticed. This problem can cause many people to have low self-esteem and problems with their health. The low self-esteem is often caused because the people are raised or built to understand that they have no worth and that they are meant for nothing but to be raped and to do work without pay.
