Succeeding the Middle Ages, the Renaissance was a time period in Europe of cultural and artistic advancements that changed the course of history, leading to the Modern Era. (Source 1) Through the Renaissance, ideas of humanism spread all throughout Europe. Humanism is a system of thought based on human individualism and self-worth that was greatly emphasized during this time period. People were expected to become active in public affairs such as literature, politics, and the arts. (Source 1)
Furthermore, during this period, the people of Europe depended upon the Bible to justify the world. (Background) In the 1300’s, humanism; which praised the intelligence of the individual, strived. Subsequently, the Renaissance people became more self-sufficient. Humanism was vigorous in Italy, where it made it’s way into fields such as art, science, and math.
The Renaissance era was the end of the Middle Ages and was the beginning of the contemporary period. It was a time where cultural movements flourished and the intellectual basis—humanism—arose. Humanism was a movement that believed that the human mind had limitless potential. It gave humans more freedom rather than following dogmas and superstitions. It was the start of the more scientific and logical age, based on evidence rather than beliefs and religion.
The start of the Renaissance was filled with horror and death, but by the end everyone started to believe in Humanism and in themselves. When Humanism started art, literature, astronomy, and anatomy started to evolve and become more and more true (ren. packet).Before the Renaissance started to evolve everyone thought that they were full of sin and that everyone should die (doc. In conclusion, the art of the Renaissance evolved very much in a very short amount of time, leaving viewers speechless when looking at the art of this period. The next reason the Renaissance changed man’s view of man was through man’s inner nature. At this time, many great people such as William Shakespeare, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Andreas Vesalius changed man’s view of the world through artwork, science, and plays. The Renaissance changed man’s view of man because, in the plays of this time, man turned to humanism, thinking that they were better than everything on earth and could do things by themselves. Humanism is the belief that humans have the right and responsibility to bring happiness and shape to their lives.

Humanism is a philosophical stance/belief that emphasizes human values and benefits rather than supernatural beings or objects. Unlike previous beliefs, humanism stresses critical thinking and evidence (ex, rationalism) to support beliefs, instead of relying on superstition. Italian Renaissance philosophers believed more in improving the intellect one’s ethics, while Northern Renaissance focused on religion in daily life and self-improvement. The literatures of both Italy and Northern Europe showed that an individual’s duty was to take part in their community and maintain a union with God. Italian humanist literature was focused on concepts of Christianity, while Northern Renaissance literature was about finding cooperation and reason instead of power and fame.
The Renaissance was a period of ideological rebirth lasting from the 14th century to the 17th century. Beginning in Florence, Italy, it spread arts, inventions, and creativity all throughout Europe as it began slowly emerging from the Dark Ages. Of course, there had to be a driving force for this movement, and that was an ideological system known as Humanism. Humanism was the belief that a person had full control over who they were, and rejected external control over one’s life. During the Dark Ages, the Roman Catholic Church dictated every aspect of a person’s life, from who they were to what they did.
Renaissance, promoting individualism, laid the foundation of Reformation in which people protested the corruption of the Church. Reformation continued the spirit of challenge for the interests of individuals. These two significant movement together made contribution to the democractic development in the western world. Renaissance was a humanism and individualism movement which rediscovered the classcial Greek philosophy to challenge the religious authority from the fourteenth century to the seventeenth century.
There was history teacher of East St. Louis high school, named Irl Solomon. He was approached by author Jonathan Kozol, due to column from a journalist. Irl Solomon was a redheaded 54 year old man who graduated Brandeis University, once he entered law school he was suddenly torn away by his concern on civil rights. After one semester in law school he dropped out and decided to go to one of the toughest schools to teach, he still remains there.

For all earthly existence, Erasmus’s Folly states that “you'll find nothing frolic or fortunate that it owes not to me [folly]” (The Praise of Folly, 14). Moreover, she states that “fools are so vastly pleasing to God; the reason being, I suggest, that just as great princes look suspiciously on men who are too clever, and hate them – as Julius Caesar suspected and hated Brutus and Cassius while he did not fear drunken Antony at all…they take delight in duller and simpler souls” (Folly, 115).
