Confronting Humanity In the tragic and haunting novel "Night" by Elie Wiesel, the holocaust serves as profound and a mortifying background that highlights the horrors and torture endured by millions of Jews. However it also becomes a crucial factor for the development of the protagonist Eliezer. Throughout the novel "Night" Wiesel was able to successfully change Eliezer view and perception of life. By having Eliezer experience the tragic horrors of the Holocaust, Wiesel exposed the cruelty of humans which changed Eliezer perception of humanity. He also subjected Eliezer to intense trails that pushed the limits of his resilience. "Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke" (Wiesel 3). This powerful line captures the profound trauma and enduring impact of the Holocaust on Eliezer life. As a result of this Eliezer realizes that humanity can be cruel and that people can never show remorse for some people. As a result of this, Eliezer had no choice but to be tested on his belief, resilience, and to understand what humanity is capable of. However this is something that someone shouldn't have to go through because of what they are and the fact that they can't change who they are. This should really be an eye opener for everyone because someone as young as Eliezer or anyone in general shouldn't go through a mass genocide. This is something that really needs to change because Jews aren’t the only ones that are being killed because there are also Christians and Muslims, and ethnic groups going through persecution.
