In the Bible, Jesus said to disciples “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” However, nowadays, Christians starts to cloister themselves and wants to stay in their comfort zone, just like the “royalties” at the party in “The Masque of the Red Death”. The people in the story have a party inside an abbey and locked themselves in there while the disease that devours people runs like a hungry lion outside the abbey. In the end, the pestilence comes into the abbey also, and every single person inside dies one by one (Poe). But what will happen if Christians continues to lock themselves inside their world like the people in “The Masque of the Red Death” and ignore what is going on in the society? What will it cause if they keep the “fun” to themselves and do not share it with unbelievers? The answer is simple, if Christians isolate themselves from the society, then no one will be eager to trust …show more content…

As Christians, people sometimes behave impolitely to unbelievers instead of showing kindness to them, which brings hatred to all Christians. The most important quality a Christian should have is love and kindness and the passion to help others, but does cloistering does anything good to them? When the prince goes and tries to kill the Red Death in the abbey, no one followed him because they feared the Red Death. Instead of helping each other, people inside the abbey became scared and helpless to other people except dying and screaming (Poe). Furthermore, in the second paragraph of The Masque of the Red Death, Poe writes, When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale … the external world could take care of itself. In the meantime it was folly to grieve, or to think. The prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. All these and security were within. Without was the "Red Death".
