Humanity Possessed by the Inner Savage of Themselves Jean-Jacque Rousseau, an Eighteenth-century philosopher, theorized that the human was born with a blank state of mind, which he referred to as the tabula rosa. He believed humans were born pure, which was a revolutionary thought for the Eighteenth-century time period, as the general belief was that all humans were evil and inhabited by the devil. This idea led to the practice of beating children in order to literally beat the devil out of them, but unfortunately, human nature does not work that way. This born-into desire for evil leads to the controversy into whether or not the human being is born with an internal savage, innately evil and malevolent. Some believe the savage character is …show more content…
Human nature drives the individual sometimes to do absolutely anything for what he wants, including abandoning morality and integrity for satisfaction. Biblically, it is believed that “after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin” (James 1:15 ESV). As personified, a desire or motivation persay drives the individual to transgress against the divinity of the word of God. Sin captures a multitude of behaviors ranging from a petty lie to an act of murder or infidelity, all of which threaten the innocence of other people and lead to harm toward them. Humans are willing to turn to a life of iniquity at the expense of others to gain what they think will satisfy them. Juxtaposed to the biblical perspective of an innate capacity for evil, it is scientifically proven that humans are prone to a life of violence and brutality. The human race since existence, as well as other species, has shown that “the more social and territorial a species was, the more prevalent lethal member-against-member violence” occurred (Tarlach). As a species began to desire more relationships and property, the more an inner violence came out of the individuals to protect their desires and opportunities. These desires and motives often seem to be crucial to an individual’s survival, which is why the ability to abandon …show more content…
Unfortunately, everybody’s natural environment has an array of problems of which affect the safety of all and cause the world to be a dangerous place. When raising children, parents and even school systems often take special care into educating kids at a young age about these issues and how to avoid or tackle them. It seems as though, however, by killing their children’s innocence, parents could actually be setting up “a self-fulfilling prophecy, creating the ominous world they try to prepare their children to survive”(Veigle). By educating at a young age of the savagery of the human mind and what it causes, parents could actually be instilling the violence into their pure children. The human therefore is born pure and is naturally pure until an outside factor causes them to become evil and become possessed by a savage. However, scientists have been able to trace back the human race to discover that “homo sapiens are part of an especially violent lineage that goes back millions of years” (Tarlach). This lineage was able to help calculate that in today’s culture, an individual has a one in five chance of being murdered. The violent nature humans possess has been passed down linearly from generation to generation as humans have evolved. The human race is biologically wired to be savages in order to
