For my extra credit book report, I chose to read “Your Inner Fish” by Neil Shubin. Neil Shubin is a highly regarded paleontologist, and is extremely qualified to have written this book. Shubin studied at Harvard university and earned his Ph.D. in organismic and evolutionary biology in 1987. He also studied at Columbia University, as well as Berkeley. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2011.

If the people of this nation ignores their civic responsibilities and don’t help make important decisions, then just a couple individuals are choosing who merits government positions. It 's our obligation as citizens to ensure our rights and take an interest politically. After examining the speeches from past Presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard M. Nixon, and the current president, Barack Obama. You can see the resemblance and the differences in their point of views for the future of America. Comparing President Richard M. Nixon’s first inaugural speech, Reagan’s Speech at the Republican National Convention in 1988, and Obama’s “Remarks of President Barack Obama State of the Union Address”, you can see the ways they think alike from their own perspective. Though they are attempting to make America the perfect nation, their approach and ideas differ in many ways.
Obama emphasizes that background will not define one’s future. He feels strongly about creating opportunities for the younger generation. As one can see, Obama’s acceptance speech was not just about his gratitude for being re-elected, but also his plans to move this nation
Every individual attains an innate desire to be something great and to form our mark in the world we live. This desire is displayed in our dreams, our child-like dreams of changing the world and I am no different. When I was little, people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up. For six years my response never changed, with my chest puffed out, I would boldly state, “I’m going to be the first black president of the United States!” Then on November 4th, 2008 Barrack Obama stole my dream and was elected the 44th president.
Ladies and Gentlemen it’s around this time every four years that we witness the inauguration of a new president. Our witnessing of this inauguration marks another 4 years that the principles upon which this country was built, still stand. It signifies that the freedom our founding fathers fought for over 200 years ago still matters today. And we, as a country, have to continue to fight for these Rights and freedoms so that future generations of Americans can continue to pursue the American dream. Many countries look at us and see a powerful nation that is the land of the free and the home of the brave.

In 2012 President Obama gave his presidential acceptance speech and changed the views of Americans by showing that he was a hard working individual and that he would try his best as President once again. President Obama, during his speech, uses many rhetorical devices to appeal to the common American and uses select phrases in his introduction and conclusion to persuade the American people that he is one of them and that he is a hard working President who will try his best in the future and make America better than it ever was.

Barack Obama’s win for President in 2009 was a historical moment for the United States. His inaugural speech was much anticipated, because this was going to set the tone for his presidency. His speech told the American people that improving the economy is one of his priorities, but there were also other areas he would like to improve like healthcare and the education system. This was a speech that was meant to persuade the American public to take action for them to rise as a nation again, and for them to put their trust into him. Good evening everyone, I hope that everyone is well and that we have had a nice Convention thus far. I remember last year leading up to the crowning that would signify the beginning of my year as the Miss AMVETS White Clover Princess, so many exciting feels as I anticipated my reign. I recall all the nerves I had as I walked up to this podium in this very room with Eric Bates and how the nerves only grew as I started to read the speech I prepared. After I read my speech and I began to relax because I knew members from previous years helping out, and tagging along at events, not everyone was a stranger. The hospitality rooms afterward made me feel great all those whom I knew seemed so proud and just as happy as I was, my nerves over giving future speeches began to subside with the helpful advice of friends.
My fellow Americans, I am proud to announce that I am running for the presidency of our great country. However this can only be achieved if you unite as one to help make me the face of congress. Once I am in this position nothing will stop me from doing everything within my power to help all those that inhabit this great nation of ours. This country has a bright and prosperous future, but it will require all of us working together for the common good. There are a countless number of good points about our country, but there are a few that we will need to work on and as your next president I will make them my top priority.
