The dramatic opening at the start of the article, “this is never an easy sentence to write”, creates suspense which immediately draws the reader in. The informal tone when Humphry writes, “here goes anyways..”, creates a conversational style with the reader causing them continue reading. Humphrys then uses a short sentence to build up suspense for the reader, “I was wrong!”. This paired with the use of punctuation for effect adds to the dramatic tension that Humphrys is creating.
