The Hunger Games is a science fictional book written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is about two teens from Panem (district twelve) who go to the capitol to fight in the seventy-fourth Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen year old girl from district 12 who volunteers for her younger sister Prim rose, at the reaping. Peeta Mallark is the male tribute. They go to the capitol and train and have interviews in which Peeta wins over the crowd by saying that he loves Katniss. Once in the games Peeta joins the career pack that includes the tributes of the Capitol, one and two and four. Which leaves Katniss by herself, where she befriends a twelve-year-old girl from district eleven named Rue. Katniss let Rue eat what she had trapped. Rue was speared by one of the careers and Katniss sings to her upon her last dying wish. Peeta and Katniss team back up and through the odds win the games, by pulling a move that shocked the whole nation. They was going to die together since there could only be one winner by eating a handful of deadly berries. The setting starts out in district twelve, then goes on to the train ride to the Capitol, then the Capitol, lastly it ends in the arena. The time period in The Hunger Games is sometime in the future. The major characters throughout the book are Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mallark, Effie Trinket, Haymitch Abernethy, Prim Rose Everdeen, Gale, Cinna, and Cato.
