Violence has been a tool used by governments to control their citizens throughout history. The Hunger Games' Capitol employs the games to maintain power and order over its districts, much like past authoritarian regimes have used propaganda and public executions. The recurring theme of using fear and violence to maintain control is a common theme in dystopian literature, emphasizing the risks of unchecked government power. The rise in popularity of reality TV shows and competitions like Survivor and Big Brother raises the possibility of such gruesome events being televised for public consumption, as in the Hunger Games.
Everyone has fear but people can use fear as a good thing. Fear can even save
Is fear the only thing to fear? Maybe it is, maybe it is not. Fear is a strong emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. Some people use fear to control the people around them. Someone that uses fear to control others is called a demagogue.
Fear can lead to many things. It may lead to you making harsh decision and be very closed minded. But overall, our fear can blind society from the truth and keep them from getting justice. We see most of this in many cases. We mostly saw this occur in the book The crucible by Arthur Miller, the Central Park five and as well with McCarthyism.
So the hunger games now serve as a punishment to the districts as to why they should not go against the capitol ever again. As the reader progresses through the novel with the topic in mind, it really makes the reader question if the capitol really had to do what they did. Another evidence of the proposed justification of the capitol's wrongdoing is when, in several instances, Katniss has intentions to do things that retaliate towards the Capitol and cause bloodshed. Tired of being used as a pawn, Katniss has always wanted to retaliate against the Capitol so many times. She has
Humans are born to be afraid. A feeling of fear is only natural for humans to feel; it is a part of who we are. However, it can be more than just a feeling. Fear can be a weakness in humans even though it is only our natural instinct for survival. Sometimes, fear is so powerful that it can blur our rationality and dominate how we think and what we do.
Oppositions to the use of fear would say that it is evil. To the contrary, evil is the use of evil for evil sake. So genocide and murder is evil, but killing can be justified. Killing can be justified in scenarios like protection, security for the state, and to keep civil obedience (in some cases). Fear is a useful tool of the time and effective if one knows how to wield
Fear is a feeling that most see as a negative force which pushes you back. However, I believe it is on the contrary. Although some may say fear is not harmful, fear is harmful due to the reason where many false accusations caused by fear lead to a massacre of deaths. some may argue that fear can be beneficial in certain circumstances. In "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller, fear is a strong theme throughout the entire story.
Fear is not always a harmful emotion. Through fear, we have learned life-long lessons that not everything will work in our favor. We have grown around the definition that fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or be a threat” but never that the emotion is a natural and a helpful response. The Crucible, Farewell to Manzanar, and a George Takei interview all provide examples of how fear can be both harmful and beneficial.
Fear can be defined as an unpleasant feeling triggered by a situation. It is an emotion encountered by every human being. However, the reactions of people to fear may vary. Indeed, it ranges from the loss of rationality to the capacity of adaptation in extreme conditions. Thus, fear can be perceived as a weapon to control and manipulate society.
Fear is what you make of it because nothing is inherently scary it is what you take from the object or experience that makes it scary and fills your head with fear. This can have an effect on society and how people and their respective governments react to types of issues and problems. This leads to in extreme cases war and mass murder of a society that is being exploited as a scapegoat. In the book Lord of the Flies the author William Golding suggest the impact fear has on human nature and how it disrupts order and disorder in a society.
Although their relationship starts out as a lie, their feelings turn real as they bond over their hatred of the situation they are in. " The Hunger Games introduces the reality that children are not only capable of facing violence but also might be called to do so in their live[s]"(Skinner 2). Both Katniss and Peeta have never killed a human being before so they are under a great deal of stress to try to keep their humanity intact. That sentiment alone is enough for the two to share a deep
She has become the victor of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games. If Katniss would not have persisted throughout the entirety of the Games, then she would have been killed off. This helps support the book's theme of survival because without perseverance, Katniss would not have made it that far in the Games. She would have not at all been able to go home to Prim. One needs perseverance to survive, which is why the character trait conveys the theme of the story.
All of these factors are presented in the novel throughout the experience of Katniss Everdeen in the games. Katniss is a 16 years old teenager from District-12, one of the districts where families suffer to put a something in their empty stomach. Her bad luck leads her to become a tribute in the hunger games, which is an undebatable evidence that the "Hunger Games" novel is a dystopia. To begin with, the hunger games are created by the government of Panem. So basically it is an annual competition where 2 kids - a girl and a boy- between the age of twelve and eighteen, are chosen from
Katniss learns how to be more selfless and not let coming from district 12 define who she is and what she can do. Katniss is a strong, force, and selfless charter who the readers can see a little bit of themselves in her as she develops through the story. The readers also strive to be a little bit more like Katniss everyday because she has the strength and willpower to complete any task that she puts her mind too. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an amazing book for readers of all
