Hurricane Harvey
August 13th, a wave was formed off of the coast of Africa. Just days later, Hurricane Harvey destroys parts of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. Homes were destroyed, power was out in hundreds of thousands of homes, and billions of dollars would have to be spent. Hurricane Harvey has been the second most destructive hurricane since 2000. The 17th of August Harvey was named, just east off the coast of Lesser Antilles Islands. Two days later, Harvey was announced and known as a tropical wave. Harvey was still pushing its way to the states for the next four days until it was declared a category four hurricane just north of the Mexico Yucatan Peninsula. The next day, August 25th, Harvey makes landfall near Rockport, Texas population just over 10,000 people. Blowing winds up to 132 miles per hour. With the fast speed of the wind makes Harvey the strongest hurricane, over a category three, in 12 years. Then Hurricane Harvey spends the next day stalling over Texas, slowing moving to the Gulf of Mexico. 200,000 homeowners devised that their homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. Of those homes 13,000 were completely destroyed and unfixable. Many people were rescued, but sadly 82 people and counting lost their lives. Not Just homes were destroyed and people were killed, over 1 million vehicles were swept up by Harvey. 4,000 homes without power and some still without power right now. Water systems down, not giving a freshwater system for many people. A total of, around, 180 billion dollars would have to be spent to repair the damage Harvey caused to the Texas, to Louisiana, Mississippi, and from Tennessee to Kentucky.
