A hybrid car is a vehicle that combines an engine with one or more electric motors powered by a battery (dictionary.com). Hybrid cars are said to be the future of cars, but what is so good about them? What can they do that a regular car can’t? Hybrid cars, a more eco-friendly alternative to regular cars, have multiple pros and very few cons, all while saving the Earth and some money. The pros include less gas stops and reduction of emissions, as mentioned above, but also tax benefits and quiet rides. The cons include the weight, and the cost. As previously mentioned, hybrids require less gas stops and give off less emissions, which save money and the Earth. Some hybrid cars can get up to 65 miles per hour, which is almost double that of a regular car! That means less trips to the gas station. Just by owning a hybrid, you can receive tax benefits. Some states, specifically California, offer up to two thousand dollars in tax refunds simply for being an owner of a hybrid. The last pro of hybrid cars is the quietness. The ride is said to be almost silent. However, there are a few cons to owning a hybrid. The first is the weight. Since the car has to hold the generator, the electric motor, the gasoline engine, and the batteries, the car is heavy. This could slightly slow down driving time. The second con to the hybrid is the cost. Although it is true that money is saved at the gas station, it isn’t saved at the car dealership. Hybrid cars cost significantly more than other cars of the same size and class (NewsCore). Hybrid cars rarely break down, but if and when they do the cost of the repairs is expensive.
