As I future hygienist, I plan to educate my patients about tobacco products. Although some of my patients will lie to me about their smoking habits, I will be able to identify suspicious spots by performing the intra and extra oral examination. I believe this is important because we are the first to identify and notice anything suspicious that could affect the body. If I approach a patient who smokes, I will first ask him or her about his or her smoking habits. For example, I will ask the patient how long has he or she been smoking for and the amount he or she smokes a day.
