October 9, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot by the Taliban. Since that attack, she has made a full recovery and published her own novel as well be a known activist for women’s and children’s rights. She is one of the many examples of how teenagers are able of making mature decisions. Malala expressed extreme mature decisions, and in 2013 she was named one of the 100 most influential people by Time Magazine. In the screenplay, Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare showed an outstanding example of teen maturity. The novel Looking for Alaska again made a realistic portrayal of teens' lives and the mature and immature decisions they make.
“In Pakistan when women say they want independence, people think this means we don’t want to obey our father's, brothers or husbands. But it does not mean that. It means we want to make decisions for ourselves...” (I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban). Even by this quote you can tell Malala is a mature young women who went through extensive amounts of trauma, and turned her life around.

In “Romeo and Juliet” When Juliet awakens she sees Romeo dead by her. Juliet shows maturity as she makes the decision to choose death over a life without her husband. “Then I'll be brief. O happy dagger! This is my sheath; there rust, and let me die” (V. iii. 180-185) Juliet shows determination and courage by this quote. Through the days Romeo and Juliet are in love and married Juliet matures into a mature and committed woman and wife. She is capable of making decisions without the help of others.
