The character Chingachgook is similar in both settings because he is described as a Native American Indian in both. As for the character Hawkeye, he was recognized as a Caucasian man but was raised as an American Indian as well. We know this because both stories suggest that Hawkeye was raised by Chingachgook so we assume that their relationship with each other is a father and son type.
