Most modern biblical scholars believe that there are clearly two versions of the creation story in the chapters of Genesis 1 through 3 in the Old Testament. These versions appear to come from three different groups of authors called the Jahwist Source, the Priestly Source and the Redactor Source. The first version, from Genesis 1:1-31 to 2:1-3 by the Priestly Source, followed by the second version, from Genesis 2:4-25 by the Jahwist Source and Redactor Source. According to the Documentary Hypothesis the younger Priestly Sources put their version of the Creation in front of the older Jahwist Source version and notice the differences, in Genesis 1 by the Priestly Source, where the focus is on the entire universe and, in Genesis 2 by the Jahwist
I was raised as a Christian all my life. In religion, you just have to trust God and his words. The bible was a message from God written by his apostles. You cannot explain all the miracles that happened because they came from above, but you need reason to understand God’s word. Our conscious is the voice of God.
In John 14:25 Jesus tells his disciples of the Holy Spirit and that he is a part of God in them. God gives us the Holy Spirit to help tell us the truth of God and the world. Without the Holy Spirit we would not be able to have the truth of life on our sides. In this I believe that Genesis 1-11 is historically accurate because of the genealogy, places, how the New Testament points to the Old Testament and how God can reveal to us. Genealogy is something that is really important in a historical sense.
The book shows a lot about what to believe and who to believe in. But God plays a big part in the
When talking about the bible it is not important to reach the conclusion on the conversation it is important to start the conversation. Interpretation of the bible needs to be an open mind. Some people are going to think differently of the bible than you; but you have to keep an open mind because there is no right or wrong answer. You also have to forget what everyone else is telling you about the bible to be able to have your view and interpret what you think of it with the opinion of other people. The bible does not only have one view and as Brueggemann states, “The Bible requires human interpretation which is inescapably subjective.”
I enjoyed very much all the good points mentioned in your discussion board regarding the Bible. I do believe that, it is important to learn the history, meaning and behind God’s plan for the Bible in our regular day lives. In the meantime, I would like to highlight the fact that, nevertheless, the Bible is all God’s Word, but, it is also good, in order to better appreciate, that Christians study other scriptures such as Old and New Testament, Gospel, the Psalms, Proverbs, Wisdom, and so forth. There are differences about the scriptures, for example, the Bible describes God’s word to us, whereas the psalms, are prayers written to God as poetry is set to music. As stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable
Roosevelt: Roosevelt was president of the United States at the time. He supported a foreign policy that would draw America into the war. He supported the allies openly back when America wasn’t as open to a large scale war. He fought political opposition from Senators and people of the opposite party who were in office. During and before the beginnings of America entering the War, Roosevelt was on his third Presidential candidate, since the limit of 2 was an unwritten rule at the time.
Though some religious scientist may not believe in the Bible literally this doesn’t imply they can’t view it symbolically or metaphorically, which I think is a more common perspective of many nondenominational or spiritualists. I think in a sense this helps the religious community to actually question the intention of their holy book creating a much deeper and significant understanding of what the stories might have been emphasizing. Plus, I think it’s this kind of mentality that will open up the religious community to accepting theological scholarly literature which break down the holy literature and unravel the puzzles behind it history, intention, and interpretation completely untouched by irrational misinterpret which has kept many denominations and nondenominational divided by what is to be taken literal or
It was something that was told to me everyday from a very young age. I personally do not believe much in what the bible actually says in regards to its many miraculous aspects to be true but, I do have an open mind and I think like with all stories there must be some truth embedded into them. This I believe is true because there has been some archeological evidence found that supports me on this.
Supporting a Creationist Worldview with Science Scientific evidence is consistent with the belief that the physical universe was designed by God. After researching this topic, I was interested to find just how much supportive evidence there is for creation and its beliefs. There is a misconception that the Bible is old, dated, and couldn’t have enough solid evidence to support the idea that a God of ancient times could have spoken the world as we know it into existence. One would think that modern science and research would be able to yield a much more sensible, concrete formula for the origin of life, and certainly one that makes more sense than an invisible God in heaven forming it from nothing. This is however, as I mentioned previously, a misconception
There ae sections of the Bible that discuss items such as dinosaurs, hydrology, physics, anthropology, biology and geology (Science and the Bible, 2003). Increasing scientific knowledge has supported the validity of the Bible. The postmodern worldview that does not acknowledge God as the singular source of creation should not be incorporated into a Christian
Then once Jesus died and resurrected and returned to heaven God gave us the holy spirit which is still with us now to guide us to him. Many people don’t believe the same as christianity because it doesn’t make sense or that scientific beliefs are more believable. Look at the facts listed in this paper and see for yourself whats more believable, an all powerful god who created everything, or a random explosion that just so happened to create life and earth and system that just so happen to work together to make functioning life and earth. I for one like many others believe it takes more faith to
There is a big argument among the world discussing the issue of evolution verses creation. The evolutionists believe that everything has evolved from similar ancestors, and over time they changed into the different species we have today. Creationists believe that everything that is on the earth was put here by a higher being that put all of the complexity and variation of the animals that are here today. I believe that everything that on the earth today was created by an intelligent being because evolution is just a theory, evolution is no longer happening, and it is unscientific based on the scientific method.
The simple answer is this-evolution doesn 't exist (Adamson 3). Although, the question of where we came from still remains. The only logical answer is the existence of a creator. If a creator exists then that means the biblical story of the creation in genesis is true. In genesis 1:1 it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
