For the second semester outside reading book project, I decided to read Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon. Ultimately this romance novel is about an 18 year old girl named Madeline who suffers from a rare disease called SCID which makes you allergic to anything and everything so she is not able to leave her house. The only people she has been socializing with for 17 years is her mother and her nurse Carla. However, everything changes when she sees her new neighbor Olly for the first time. She begins to talk to him through messages, emails, and even writing on their windows with marker. Through her interactions with Olly, she confines in him her concerns about her future and her goals that she dreams of. Slowly, Olly prompts her to feel something that she’s never felt before: love. One prominent theme that is developed throughout the novel is love and how love is an amazing intangible object that makes people foolish and clouds our consciousness, meanwhile the loss of it is devastating and makes people even crazier.

So I keep it low, a secret code, so everybody else don’t have to know.” Throughout the novel, Maddy’s relationship with Olly has been keep a secret from her mom, while Carla has reluctantly helped her. These secrets have restricted Maddie from fully falling in love with Olly yet when she attempts to live on without him, she eventually reverts back to his love. Although Maddy knows that her mother would not approve of her liking a boy and that she is betraying her mother by lying to her, Maddy’s love for Olly overcomes guilt and the need for rational thought which is a theme expressed throughout the
