"I Have a Dream" is a speech delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963, during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Therefore, "I Have a Dream" is considered a primary source document, as it is a first-hand account of an event by someone who directly participated in or witnessed it. It was delivered on August 28, 1963. The "I Have a Dream" speech was written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an American Baptist clergyman and civil rights campaigner. He was raised in a middle-class family and was born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. In the 1950s, he joined the civil rights movement and promoted social justice and racial equality. To demand economic and civil rights for African Americans, organizers of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom organized the event where Dr. King gave his "I Have a Dream" address. Over 250,000 people participated in the nonviolent protest, making it one of the biggest civil rights rallies in American history. The occasion played a significant role in promoting the civil rights movement and increasing pressure on the federal government to act. The "I Have a Dream" speech played a crucial role in this more important civil rights movement.
