Shakespeare depicts many kinds of love in his writings from puppy love in Romeo and Juliet to unrequited love in. I'm Sonnet 116 he describes an intense deep affection between two willing souls that greatly mimics the real love of today. The speaker of the poem is very adamant in his love understanding of real love. He is certain the idea of love he depicts in the poem is the real thing, and he is willing to put his reputation at stake by challenging the readers. The speaker seems to have experienced "the marriage of true minds" which refers to real love and he believes it is relentless and undying. Which is believable from William Shakespeare, a writer revered for his dramatists and dumbed the greatest writer in the English language. The poem asserts that "love is not love" without unwavering and constant commitment. Two people who are in love are bound to face difficulties, therefore to overcome this problem, they require loyalty and perseverance. The third theme in the poem is mortality. It is not clearly defined in the poem. However, the speaker in the poem talks about love and how it does not alter with short hours and weeks but bears till the edge of doom. In the poem, true love is not subject to time because real love perseveres despite difficulties till the edge of doom. The most prominent trait of Sonnet 116 is the use of imagery and metaphoric statements. However, they are not outstanding as compared to other Shakespeare's sonnets. One example of the imagery is found in the third quatrain, "time wielding a sickle that ravages beauty's rosy lips and cheeks." The imagery describes how time has no effect on love. One example of metaphor in the poem is, "love as a guiding star to lost ships." This metaphor describes how true love acts as guidance through difficulties and very intensely restrained
