I. T. Magnet Program Personal Statement

I’ve always been interested in different technologies and how they work. This interest started in High School as I enrolled in the I.T. Magnet program freshman year. As I took different IT classes in high school I learned many subjects that really caught my attention. From networking classes that showed me how computers interact with each other to programming classes that showed me how complex programs are made. I began to see myself working in this field in the future. I entered FIU to study computer engineering as I became super interested in how computer hardware is made and fixed. I applied for a Bachelor of Arts as math had been my weakness. Throughout the rest of my time in FIU I was able to learn more about software development, programming languages, etc. I enjoyed my time at FIU and I’m proud to be a graduate of this prestigious university. The next step, start my career with an entry level position.
It became difficult to secure an entry level job in this industry. I didn’t have any relative work experience and didn’t get any offers after the interviews I attended. During this process I applied for a position in FIU. About a month later I got a response to do an interview for the position. A day after the interview, my current supervisor contacted me to share with me an offer for the position. Now I’m currently working as an Associate Applications Business Analyst for the FIU Controller’s Office.
I’m grateful to this university for guiding me through my college career and now IT career and I would like to expand my knowledge. I want to apply to the Master of Science in Information Systems in the Business Analytics track. Some of my colleagues have taken this program and have recommended it to me. I also see it fitting with my current position and can help me move up in my field. This can also benefit my department, as I gain more knowledge I can take on more
