ICU Cover Letter

The facility and position I chose to write my cover letter for is for Allegheny Health Network’s Forbes hospital within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I chose this healthcare system because I am currently employed on a different unit within the facility and I share the companies vision and mission, and I also value their acknowledgment of my hard work, thus far. Within the hospital, I have come across very few people that are simply miserable, and I enjoy working with a team that does their best to make the best of any situation. Healthcare can be stressful and discouraging, however, I have found that during these times it is the people that you work with the matter most. My decision to apply for a position in the ICU relates to my passion for critical care nursing. Over the past 2 years I have worked on a unit that cares for orthopedic, stroke, and trauma patients. While the acuity of patients is considered high when accounting for the nurse to patient ratio of 1:6, the patients are near stable to be discharged within an average of three days on the unit. The unit I am currently employed with is one step down from an ICU or progressive care unit, and this means I care for patients that may have a higher acuity, but do not require ventilator assistance. Also contributing to the acuity on our unit is the fact that Forbes hospital is a level one trauma center, and this results in many of our trauma patients having high acuities. I have developed a strong foundation to advance in critical care nursing and have had several critical situations that have developed.
