Miracle on Ice happed on February 22, 1980. It is when team USA defeated the Soviet Union in the semi-final men’s ice hockey game during the winter Olympics. It took place in lake placid, New York and would be one of the biggest and most important games America has played during the winter Olympics. It is called the Miracle on ice because the USA hockey team had to defeat the mighty Soviet Union amateur team, which was not an amateur team, but a team filled of professional athletes, while the Americas hockey team was college students. The Miracle on ice sent shock waves throughout the world, and it had such an impact on America that the was a movie made after the hockey game played on February 22nd, 1980. To this day the miracle on ice is still a legendary game, and will forever hold a dear place in Americas history. The second half was at a standstill, both sides not letting a single goal in, until the Soviet Union scored making them lead the second half. If team USA wanted to win, they would have to dig deep and put everything they had into the game, and they did. The final period was upon them and they came out and played their hearts out. Showing that if you want it more and train harder than anything is possible and that is what team USA did. In the last period team USA scored 2 unanswered goals, giving them a 1-point lead over the Soviets. It was truly a miracle on ice beating the Soviet Union. Later team USA would face Finland and beat them the same ways. Team USA was behind on points but they came together and beat
