The Truth About the World; Ida B Wells When it comes to a women role model, there is only one lady in mind, and that is Ida B Wells, Born on July 16, 1862 in Holly Springs Missouri, She found out about the discrimination and hate people ‘like her’ get because she is black and that too a woman. Ida B Wells was brought up in slavery, where in the south more than 50% of their population is slaves, but Ida was one of the only people willing to make a change. She was a civil rights activist and journalist, dedicating her life to finding the truth about the world. Ida’s main job in life was to inform the people around her what is really going on in the world. On the report of Tiana Mobley, a writer for the White House asserts that, “A lynching is the public killing of an individual who has not received any due process. These executions were often carried out by lawless mobs, though police officers did participate, under the pretext of justice”(“Ida B. Wells Lynch Law in All Its Phases - ). Lynching was an act based on the hate and urge to control the colored people during the 20th century. Lynching always resulted in hanging, rape, and even being burnt alive. From the late 1800’s to the mid 1900’s lynching was mainly done to the black community just to terrorize and unequal them from the world. To start the lynching process, white community usually made up a false situation accusing mainly black men of a crime they most likely did not even commit. Because of this the bystanders or the surrounding crowd started to believe the white group and proceed with the lynching act. While seeing this cruelty, Ida B Wells knew that she had to do something to bring justice to these black men. This situation shows how unfair and biased the overall community was against black people. Also, how hard it would be for anyone to stand up against these ‘powerful’ men at that time. Later on, Ida B Wells then fully understand what the practice of lynching is and how it was affecting her life and so she knew she had to make a difference. After witnessing such horrendous affects and how people would do nothing to stop them, Ida wrote two books about the horrors of lynching.The first main book Ida B Wells wrote was Southern Horrors: A Lynch Law and All its phases. This book was first published in 1892, followed by many speeches and events in honor of it.
