By the late eighteenth century, classical music became accessible to a greater amount of people than there were previously. This occurred mainly due to the Enlightenment, which was an important intellectual movement in the areas of philosophy, science, and education. This movement also had a significant impact on the arts; specifically classical music in regards to how it was performed, how it was composed, and how it could be arranged. Some of the great ideas of the Enlightenment were the rejection of social hierarchy and an increased emphasis placed on education.
