Have you ever felt unsure and confused of your sole purpose in life? In the movie, Blade Runner 2049, Officer K feels unsure of his purpose in the world. The movie takes place in the future were Replicants created by The Tyrell Company are basically slaves to Humans. Besides the limited lifespan of 4 years and that they are created by a company they are identical to Humans. The movie plays with many different themes one of which is what does it mean to be human, another theme the movie plays with is identity. It follows a character called Officer K who is a loner and doesn’t really know what his true purpose is.

I think a hidden truth in The Perks of Being a Wallflower is that Charlie struggles with identity much like the character K in Blade Runner 2049. In the movie Officer K struggles with his own identity after figuring out everyone he thought he knew about himself and his memories were lies to prevent a truth from being revealed. He discovered throughout the film that the memories he was given were not his. He is also throughout the film starting to think he is the child of Deckard which would make him the truth, he starts to feel important about this and his identity struggle gets worse discovering that he was not who he thought he was and he was not important. Charlie also struggles with his identity in The Perks of being a wallflower with him trying to figure out who he is, and trying to blend with his friends and other people. The quote “I just need to know that someone out there listens and understands and doesn’t try to sleep with people even if they could have” (Chbosky 1) shows he needs someone to listen to him talk about his life and who could understand similarly to Charlie to make him feel not alone like Officer K. I also think this quote shows how Charlie wants this person to almost give him a purpose to his life similarly to how the memories of K lead him to believe he is the child of Deckard and has a important purpose to his
