To ensure a comprehensive school counseling program a professional school counselor must bring together the school’s mission. The identity of a professional school counselor continues to envolve and transform, as it should. 2018 implements a new era in the school counseling profession, in which traditional methods meet current and possible future challenges. “Professioanl school counseling must envolve into a model that will both fit the needs of the students in this rapidly changing society and conform to the demands of school reform and accountability mandates, while working as learders and advocates in schools to remove barriers to student success” (Erford, 2015). This is far from an individual just picking classes and preparing students for higher education. The professional school counselor is and must maintain a multi-dimensional role. This role contains leadership, advocacy, consultation, and collaboration.
