1. What, if anything, morally justified Mr. Meiks’s choice to kill the Thurman sheriff?
Following the classic divine command theory, the only possible thing that could morally justify Mr. Meiks’s choice to kill the Thurman sheriff is that he was protecting is divine mission from God. God supposedly commanded to him to complete his mission, to tell no one outside the family about it, and to protect the mission. Mr. Meiks even told his son that if the latter told others about the mission someone would die. Since there is not a feasible way to prove or disprove whether it was actually God’s angel telling Mr. Meiks God’s command, his choice to kill the Thurman sheriff is morally justified under strict interpretation of the divine command theory. However, there is some counter-argument in the fact that the sheriff’s name was not on a list. That is why Mr. Meiks was so upset and considered it a morally impermissible …show more content…

I personally wouldn’t say he was morally obligated to build the ark because of the divine command theory, but if God asks you to do some random acts of kindness (not cruelty) it is probably a good idea to do it. To those who would say he shouldn’t have had to build the ark, because it was harming his relationship with his family I would say the harm that was coming to his family was not due to Evan’s task, but how he was dealing with that task. I think he should have took the hint when he read online about Noah building the arc with his wife and three sons. He included his children, but neglected to confide in his wife. Luckily, though God stepped in an explained to Evan’s wife that he was answering her prayer to bring her family closer by providing her with a unique opportunity.
