Addressing immigrants and the effect of an influx of immigrants on a particular country has the potential to become a very heated debate, with proponents of all views moving farther away from the middle and instead to a state of extreme. One extreme view is expressed in the above newspaper editorial, in which the author called for the deportation of all illegal immigrants. Such a statement does not consider the assumptions being made at the point of reaching this decision, however. The author begins by assuming that illegal immigrants do indeed endanger a country's economy and national identity. There is no evidence provided of this fact, nor are there any examples of illegal immigrants detracting from either the economy or national identity. Should it be the case that these immigrants do not cause the harm stated above, there is no support for removing them from their homes. …show more content…

There are innumerable qualities that each person in their own right possess, and failing to recognize an individual's strengths and what one person or a group of people could contribute deprives the country of opportunity. Should it be the case that the economy and national identity of the author's country are being threatened, there is no way of knowing that the threats are only a result of illegal immigrants. It may well be the case that the country's own natives are engaging in practices that endanger their own economy and national identity. Another cause of threats may be legal immigrants entering the country in more traditional means. Attributing any and all failings of the country's economy and national identity results in an opportunity missed to identify and address compounding
