Illegalizing Abortion Will Not End Abortion For over 40 years, the Supreme Court case of Roe v. Wade in 1973 has been a point of controversy in America. Many people are calling for the case to be overturned; others are fighting for it to be upheld. Among all this disagreement, people have looked towards the government for help, leading this issue to become a political hot spot. Candidates of all types of government elections are very clear on their views of abortion, which can lead to some “one-topic votes”. Some candidates have also made it clear that they want to illegalize abortion, therefore ending it. However, it is not that black and white. Banning abortions will not end them. Easier and cheaper access to contraceptives and better health and sex education is a better solution to decreasing abortions.
Abortion and the question of its legality has never been easily ignored. People are constantly arguing over the issue. Neither pro-life supporters and pro-choice advocates are a very quiet group. Both sides are sticking very hard to beliefs. Pro-lifers want to overturn Roe v. Wade and ban abortion across the board while pro-choicers are fighting to keep the ruling and protect abortion rights in America. Abortions are sad and unfortunate, but they will continue to happen, that is the reality of the world we live in. However, if we as a society release abortion from the stigma surrounding it, we will be able to begin finding a solution that won’t have to do with the law, it will have to do with being ready to help the women in these positions. Unsafe and illegal abortions are even more sad than legal and professional ones. To reduce abortions, we should be focused on contraceptives and sex education, not punishing those in this horrible
