Before the acclaimed theorists of the Ancient Greek civilisation, the Greeks not only had the belief that the causes of illness and diseases were a form of punishment from demons, but they also thought that the only way they were able to heal is if the gods healed them, such as the god of medicine, Asclepius. These beliefs were solely based upon civilisations before their own, such as the Ancient Egyptians and Indians. In later years, at around the time of 500BC, Greek doctors and philosophers had made substantial developments towards their knowledge, taking far more interest in the science and rationality behind illnesses, its causes, cures and diagnosis of them to gain knowledge, rather than reliance on gods.
