The great gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald has lots of characters who are unsatisfied or show illusions within their lives for example gatsby has all the money he could ever want but is still not happy with his life. Gatsby has everything a person could ever want but he still is not happy with his life or proud of his past. Gatsby’s past is very mysterious no one really knows much about it until he tells Nick the truth about how he was born terrible poor and left home when he was only 17. Gatsby told Nick how his real name was James Gatz and about his mentor Dan Cody who taught him to be a gentleman and also changed his name to Jay Gatsby. He also told Nick how he had met Daisy at her house and instantly fell in love but then went away to war. While Gatsby was away at war Daisy moved on and married Tom. Gatsby already has so much but still wants more he wants Daisy to come live with him now that he is rich he found her and is trying to win her love back even though she is married to Tom now. Daisy was born into a rich family and didn’t work for anything because she came from old money. She met Gatsby at a dance that was happening at her house and she instantly fell in love with him. When Gatsby went to war she didn’t know when or if he would return. “Since Gatsby first met Daisy five years passed because he’s been away at war then involved with business to make the money he believes he needs to win Daisy’s love”(Fitzgerald). When Gatsby and Daisy finally end up in the same room at Nick’s house for tea Daisy and Gatsby start having an affair and dream of how they will be together once Daisy leaves Tom. But Daisy doesn’t know what she actually wants because in New York when Gatsby and Tom are arguing over her she can’t choose between them because she loves them
