“Time to Pee!” is a book Willems wrote about potty training. This book teaches children the life skill of using the bathroom. It covers the general protocol of what to do while in the bathroom but also covers those situations in which children may have an accident because they do not want to stop playing and reassures them that everything will still be there when they come back. He uses the same style in most of his books making it apparent to readers who the author is without having to look. Even when he collaborates on books with other authors Willems keeps true to his style. I love that my students can recognize books by given authors based on the illustrations. Willems ability to stay consistent through his illustrations helps children to stay engaged in his books as they grow from emergent readers to proficient readers. Staying true to his first book, Willems often hides his Pigeon character on pages of his other books. Willems was asked in his blog if “Pigeon was really hiding in every one of his books?” Willems says “It's true. The Pigeon hates it when I make books that aren't about him. So, he hides in every book I've ever illustrated. He's easy to spot in “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!”, but harder to spot in some of my other ones. If you can't find The Pigeon, you probably haven't looked hard enough (some of them are tricky!). The Pigeon is also hidden in every Elephant and Piggie Like Reading! adventure as well.” (Willems, Mo). Willems books are truly some of my favorite children’s literature books, they are fun, engaging, teach life lesson and allow students to grow as they become better
