In the letters of Abigail and John Adams during July 13-14th, 1776 to July 27th, 1776 provides a good imagery and gives an insight to what is going on at the time the letters are being sent discussing John Adams friends questioning him of forgetting about his wife and kids and him being so far away from home asking many eager questions to himself of if he really cares for his family or not. As reading these letters and text from the book the big message and theme here is that of which it was very difficult and stressful for Abigail to write to her husband at the time because of the sickness going on in her family and john being so far away from home, also it gives the clear image that john being as far as he is feels more caring for his family …show more content…

Setting a tone of discomfort and great struggle.
During this period of time of July 13-14th Abigail is writing to John explaining to him that she is sorry for not being able to write to him but letting him know she is safe and is staying with her aunt and uncle who were ever so nice to let them stay with them. As well as the accommodations that were provided were very pleasing to Abigail and her children. Abigail portrays a very sick and kind hearted person during this time period and showing just how difficult it is having her children all sick as well as herself with the worry of her husband and how he is doing in Philadelphia. That is an example of her being kind hearted and worrying not only of herself but of her husband as well as her kids. She as well states in the letter “Nor am I a little gratified when I reflect that a person so nearly connected with me has had the honor of being a principal actor, in laying a foundation for its future greatness” (14 July 1776 2). This helps to support what John Adams and his committee were doing at the time, they met in Philadelphia to talk about the declaration of independence. At this time John Adams is questioned by his friends of him forgetting about his family in which was not true but of all that was going on he had payed not as much attention to them leaving his friends questioning him. He asks himself if he has been a politician for a very long time that now he is losing feelings for his loved ones. John seeks an answer but only to find that he has not forgotten them but has had another importance in his life he needs to take care of first. At this time he finds out that his wife has been saying she’s fine as well as the kids but they really all have the pox and he is eager to find out of their recovery from Abigail. And Abigail lets him know that they are starting to do better but that the pox is odd and only some in the family have gotten it and others experience no symptoms at all.
