Johnathan Kozol’s article “Still Separate, Still Unequal: America’s Educational Apartheid” targets today’s society. He states how segregation today isn’t any different from how it was decades back. The intended audience can initially be everyone because the article stresses the importance of how America hasn’t really gone through much change. Kozol uses several methods of development to produce a successful argument. He persuasively constructs his argument using logos, while backing up his claim with factual information.

David Leonhardt, an American journalist and columnist, wrote an article published by New York Times, “Make Colleges Diverse,” on the need to enroll more working-class students at elite universities. Universities have implemented a different racial and ethnic student body, but lacked the acceptance of students with low financial status. The financial burden from colleges has discouraged students from achieving their goals at Ivy League schools. David Leonhardt mentions that universities should work with the middle class students of all races. Overall, he uses rhetorical questions, stylistic language, and an informal tone to emphasize the need for colleges to be more diverse starting with the financial status of each person.
According to another author from Business NH Magazine, Brenda Lett, she states “We are held back, and hold ourselves back, by deciding not to work collectively to address the lie of superiority and inferiority based on skin color.” (Mowry 61). Students race matters. If people did not notice about their race, is like pretending not to see the consequences for this students. They knew that they are “the other” before they were called “the other”.
Do we only care about diversity in America when we’re amongst people of different races? In David Brooks, “People Like Us,” he explores this taboo topic, originally published in the issue of the Atlantic Monthly, 2003. In the first few sentences of the essay he states that perhaps there is somewhere in the United States that there is a really an area where people are diverse (62). But then again he has not ever been made aware of such an area.
Introduction Race and racism are uncomfortable topics, but ones that must be openly and honestly discussed in order to begin the process of change. This paper will review my background, analyze readings, and openly discuss how the readings relate to me. The more information I learn about this issue, the more surprised I am that our society still exhibits bias, because as much as the United States preaches about equality, it appears as if society has segregation in minor ways. Although the debate between whether there are biased questions on the SATs or not seems to favor that there aren’t by popular opinions, there is still biased behavior occurring in school systems that prevent certain groups of students from getting the proper resources needed. Because I would like to work in an low-income area, which most likely would contain minorities, as a teacher I would make the effort to help those students get the sufficient help needed. This motivates me to become a part of the education field, because caring teachers are much needed in area like this.

College: An Unsuccessful Diversification Project In her article, “Why America is Self-Segregating,” Danah Boyd emphasizes the importance of diversity in our social connections and explains, as members of a nation, we are segregating ourselves. Through culture, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic background, fragmentation is occurring daily. Boyd realizes that diversity is hard, but believes it is a crucial part of a successful democracy. Boyd explains that while the original goal of social media may have been to connect people from different cultures and nations, its effects have been working in the opposite direction.

In the past we know that higher education hasn't always been extreme inclusive, and that someone who brings new and ‘radical’ point of views can be seen in a negative light. When I was watching Black Panther there was a sense of community even for those who were no longer in Wakanda. What would happen if we were able to have a strong sense of community in higher education, from people that come from every walk of life, and what new ideas would be brought to the table to move everyone
Something that I’ve learned from this course was the term “intersectionality” and how that plays into equity. While isolating an issue does help in understanding its roots, the next step we should be taking is to understand the interconnecting nature of social identities. This many help us to become a more equitable society. For example, when Chelsea facilitated the workshop where we touched upon intersectionality in the pay gap, we learned how both gender and racial identity can affect an individual’s wage. While white women earn $0.74 to a white man’s dollar, black women only make $0.64.
To resolve these relating to segregation and educational inequity, educators must face racism upfront. Educators have to confront their own, sometimes unmindful, racism, and then move toward integration that will lead to a better cure of racism or at least a prejudice reduction. Important aspects of a multicultural curriculum include critical thinking, emotional intelligence instruction, character, moral education, peace education, service learning, antiviolence education, and the comprehensive of education etc. Sandra Parks, a successful educator, believes that by adapting the curriculum and by addressing expressions of racism, schools can help students improve to by understanding and dealing with other people, of peoples color and cultural differences. She believes that teachers have to show respect towards their students, their families, and their students' cultural backgrounds.
Globalization is the process of transformation of the whole world into the global village, and it means that the borders of countries are open to reciprocal integration and connection. All governmental systems in both developed and developing countries were under the influence of various globalization processes. Regarding education, it is considered that developing countries felt significant impact of the globalization processes in the last 40 years. Globalization and education are considered as an intertwined set of global processes affecting education, such as worldwide discourses on human capital such as are lifelong learning, the knowledge economy and technology, English as a global language; multilateral organizations and multinational corporations. Educational discourses generally assign to human capital, lifelong learning for improving job skills, and economic development, because most governments prioritize the developing the human capital to stimulate economic progress.
Introduction Prior to taking this course, my perspective on globalization was very limited because I had very little knowledge and experience with this topic. I never gave much thought to the educational practices or policies that are implemented across the globe. There are many factors to consider when it comes to the process that these countries have taken to successfully integrate technology into their K-12 education system. Before even taking this course I will admit that I have thought about how great it would be to connect with educators or health professionals across the globe, but I never thought I could make it happen.
