Have you ever thought to yourself, why are there so many immature people in today's society? If so, I may have an answer that might shock you. The character Joe's journey throughout The Round House shows how making 1 or 2 immature decisions does not make a person immature. Furthermore, Joe's journey also explains how adults being more involved in children's lives can help stop kids from making immature choices. Lastly, Joe's journey shows the effects of adults not being involved in children's lives. For reference, Joe's aunt Sonja was trying to give Joe's grandpa Mooshum an adult dance because it was recently his birthday. Sonja intended for this dance to be only for Mooshum, but when she came over to give him this gift, Joe was there helping Mooshum and getting advice from him. Previously, Joe had come to Sonja for help because he had recently found a doll with tens of thousands of dollars stuffed inside. Joe has always had an enormous crush on his aunt, Sonja. While she was trying to give Mooshum his gift, Sonja told Joe politely to leave so she could give Mooshum his gift, but Joe declined and said, "You're gonna let me stay. Because if you don't, I'll tell Whitey about the money" (217). Whitey is Sonja's partner and Joe's uncle. This was a very immature and rude thing to say, but it was not Joe's fault. If Father Travis had not said what he said to Joe earlier, it would have caused Joe to not think about women in a demeaning way.
