Not only has hydroelectricity improved the process of the human’s water source, it improved knowledge of the process of water generation for scientists. Hydroelectricity process uses reservoirs and dams. A reservoir is a big natural or artificial lake that supplies water. A great example of hydroelectricity is Niagara Falls because of the large quantity of energy that can be generated from the massive amounts of water that the falls contains. New York and Canada are conjoined hydroelectricity users because Canada has the famous Niagara Falls and River as their hydroelectricity source. Many scientists and entrepreneurs actually tried to tame Niagara Falls to make it a useful source for hydroelectricity but many of them failed because of the …show more content…

Hydroelectricity was a cheap form of energy for North America but it still had negative effects on society because of how other aspects were impacted. Environment was impacted by hydroelectricity in many ways. For example, if the dam were to break then it would flood and destroy the land creating that land unusable. This could include relocating people because now they can’t use the land that has been flooded and ruined. Not only can hydropower affect land but also, hydroelectricity effects water sources such as rivers. Hydroelectric power plants can change the temperature of water and the flow of a river. This can be harmful to plants and animals that live in the rivers or surrounding land. Most hydroelectric power plants have dams and reservoirs. These things may stop fish migration and may cause change in population. For example, in the Columbia River, salmon have swim upstream to reproduce, but the dams gets in their way and make their reproducing process harder. (“Hydroelectricity and the Environment”). These impacts were important because it gave them knowledge of what needed to be done to fix or improve the dam and reservoir. To conclude, while hydroelectricity has its many perks, there are some negative impacts that affected the society and their …show more content…

Society has been impacted by the technology of hydroelectricity in many ways and one of which is economically. Comparing hydroelectricity to other energy processes, it is far less expensive and requires less supervision or support. The type of machinery that is used in the process, can save the processing plant a great deal of money and it allows profit making. These impacts are significant because now people can get electrical power with less money. In the end, there are still positive points of hydroelectricity that makes this technology a useful tool to the
