How did military technology affect the way WWI was fought?

World War I lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. It was one of the deadliest global conflicts throughout our history. It was fought between the Allied Powers and Central Powers. Military technologies launched after the Industrial Revolution directly changed the way World War I was fought. The technologies in the military played a significant role during the war. New weapons and tactics like tanks and trench warfare dominated the battlefield. In this essay, we will explore how these technologies and tactics shaped the way WWI was fought.

Being a messenger during the war was one of the most dangerous jobs. From horn, smoke and messenger pigeons to radio and wired telephones, military communication has strode from primeval to modern satellite devices. These ways of transmitting messages were not secure or precise. The invention of telephones represents the technology stepped into modern. The telephone could record a person’s voice and change to electric signals. Well, it cost a lot to set up the telephone on the battled field. According to the recording of U. S. Army, they constructed 2,000 miles of telegraph and telephone pole lines using 28,000 miles of wire, and 32,000 miles of French communication poles. They also installed 40,000 miles of combat lines and established 134 permanent telegraph offices and 273 telephone exchanges. “ you lose the intelligence, you lose the war ” The technology in communication changes really fast. Radio was first developed in 1895 by a young Italian boy. People called it the “wireless telephone”. His invention was used in the communication between the trenches on the frontline to the commanders. Morse code was quickly widespread on the battlefield of Europe.
